The Sandy Leong x Gemfields Serenity Collection launched in May with a stunning collection of pendants, bangles, earrings and statement rings. This is the third collaboration between the New York-based jewellery designer and Gemfields, a world-leading miner of responsible coloured gemstones. Each piece in this new range reflects Leong’s quirky trademark style and harnesses the beauty of Gemfields’ Zambian emeralds, juxtaposed with freshwater pearls for a fresh, earthy look that is timeless but with a modern, geometric edge.
Most importantly, a portion of the funds raised from the collection – which is already selling strongly – will be donated to the Gemfields Foundation, to help projects on the ground in sub-Saharan Africa in the realm of children and education – causes close to Leong’s heart. As with her previous two collections, Leong will donate 10% of proceeds from sales of pieces featuring Zambian emeralds to the Foundation. “I truly believe in the important work that the Gemfields Foundation is doing, specifically around creating opportunities for women and children, as well as in the education space,” says Leong.
Donations from previous collections have helped to fund the reconstruction of a school in Madagascar, transforming young lives.
Pieces in the collection range from a pearl pendant necklace with emerald beading to a wave bangle, hoop and drop earrings and a stunning cocktail ring with emerald pavé, among other treasures. Each is defined by the offbeat asymmetry and mismatched gemstone sizing that gives a playful quality to Leong’s designs. The peaceful green and white of the emerald and pearl combination also makes each piece feel fresh and serene, as the collection’s name suggests.
“Each piece in the Serenity Collection is a soothing oasis from the turmoil of current affairs, offering an opportunity to pause, absorb the beauty of nature
and believe in the growth and new beginnings that it will support in sub-Saharan Africa,” says Emily Dungey, Marketing & Communications Director of Gemfields and Managing Director of the Gemfields Foundation.
