Donation of 4,000 solar lamps to displaced families, Mozambique

On 22 July 2021, Gemfields Foundation provided support to internally displaced people who have fled their homes following terrorist attacks further North, and now reside in camps in the Cabo Delgado province.

Purchased by the Gemfields Foundation and distributed with the help of our team at Montepuez Ruby Mining (MRM) in alignment with the government, over 500 families received two lamps each at a ceremony in Nanhupo B, attended by the District Director of Planning and Infrastructure and a representative of the Namanhumbir Administrative Post.

This is the first distribution of solar lamps. In coming days, the team at MRM will visit other IDP camps and provide a total of 4,000 lamps.

Gemfields Foundation’s donation of solar lamps follows MRM’s multiple donations of food and essential items.
