In the last few weeks, the exterior of the school has received additional coats of paint and is starting to look very smart. The team have carefully maintained an exposed brick area next to the entrance, showing the ‘London bricks’ in a nod to Gemfields’ London headquarters, an aspect which was revealed as a surprise to the Foundation this week. There have been big changes on the inside, particularly to the canteen. The floor has been laid, ceilings and walls painted, and the worktops constructed in the locations where food will be cook and prepared. The biogas installation is nearly complete – the next step is for fertiliser to be laid, following which it will be just 15 days until gas will be produced. The next steps are to lay pipes that will bring the water supply to the school, and for tables to be fixed into position in the canteen and classrooms. This Saturday, the children are coming to the school to decorate the classrooms. They will be using cheerful colours and finger painting to make the classrooms a place they are both proud of and enjoy.
